Sad news - Oscar and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Isaac Hayes died today. He was 65.According to People.com, Hayes was found unconscious in his Memphis home and pronounced dead shortly thereafter in a local hospital.
Hayes was well known for his outstanding funk-fueled music of the 70s especially his Oscar-winning "Theme from Shaft." In recent years, he has found a new audience based on his work as the bawdy Chef on Comedy Central's "South Park" and his affiliation with the Scientology cult/religion.
I can't even say how freakin bummed out I am right now - first Bernie Mac and now Isaac Hayes. What is going on Black Hollywood - ya'll need to get it together!?!
They say these things come in threes - somebody had better check on Sidney Poitier and James Earl Jones. I can't take another passing of a giant.
